4 built-in Roland drum machines and DVS compatible, a step above the DJ-202.

6.7out of 10

The quick verdict

  • 4 built-in Roland drum machines (808, 909, 606, 707), one more than the DJ-202
  • Serato DVS compatible if you want to add timecode vinyl later
  • 8 dedicated pads with 6 Serato DJ modes (Hot Cue, Roll, Slicer, TR, Pattern, Sampler)
  • Price and rating unconfirmed on Amazon.nl due to a detected data error on the product page
  • 2017 model, in the final stage of its commercial lifecycle
  • At 3.5 kg, somewhat heavier than the entry-level DJ-202

Best for: Anyone who wants a step up from the DJ-202 in drum machines and DVS compatibility, and doesn't mind that it's a model that's been on the market for a few years.

The DJ-505 shares the DJ-202's philosophy (genuine Roland drum machines built in) but raises the bar: here it's 4 drum machines (TR-808, TR-909, TR-606 and TR-707) instead of 3, with 8 dedicated pads for Serato DJ in Hot Cue, Roll, Slicer, TR, Pattern and Sampler modes. It's also Serato DVS compatible if you want to add timecode vinyl later, and the mixer can be used standalone by connecting players or turntables through its line and phono inputs.

We need to be honest here: while checking the Amazon.nl data, we found that the price and rating on this specific listing exactly match those of a different Roland product from the same batch, an error on Amazon's page itself, not a real DJ-505 figure. So we'd rather leave price and rating unconfirmed than show you a number you can't trust. It's a 2017 model, so it may no longer be in full production, but it's still a real controller with a good reputation among those who work with Roland drum machines.

What buyers say

Amazon.nl doesn't currently show a reliable price for this product, so we'd rather leave it blank than show you a number you can't trust. Use the button to check the current price on Amazon. We also found that the displayed rating matches a different product, so we're not taking that at face value either.

Been very happy with the way it works well I got it as my first DJ controller with little room to grow with I got it to learn to DJ for Online spaces and been really enjoying it to quality of this unit is great only seen Pioneer ones, so I never seen a Roland and never heard of the other brands in this price point and have heard of Roland Juno comes to mind anyway haven't had any problems with it Love the fact it comes with Serato Pro and 90 days free Bpm supreme to get you started music wise

4 years later and still one of the best pieces of DJ equipment I have ever purchased. Works great as a stand-alone Serato controller, or analog turntable mixer with a built in 808. Will stay in my gear list forever. Love it.

Played a gig last night and during the middle of my set, the tracks started to freeze. It did this randomly throughout the night. I looked online and it's a known issue. Other than that its cool, but if you want to play out in front of a crowd, i won't use this.
